My first thoughts and reflection from spending the afternoon and evening with the founder and CEO of LYF Michael Han, Chief Branding officer Mary Ann Petorinni, Lyf Master distributor Jimmy Kossert and a host of leaders of LYF.

First class, will not compromise product or performance to rush to market. Determined to raise the bar in the home based or direct sales industry. Products that are backed by science. Tested, proven, results oriented. Were a few of my first thoughts and reflections.

Building Relationships That Last | Little Things Matter

Whether you’ve just recently dipped your toe into the pool of online social networking or you’ve been swimming in it for some time, you have probably realized that it’s all about relationships.

While the Internet now allows us to connect in new ways and stay connected regardless of where we are, the fundamental skills of building relationships remain unchanged.

Today’s lesson is an important reminder for all of us that the key to any long-term relationship is making sure that you give at least as much as you get.

The value of relationships

One of the most basic needs of humans is to have meaningful relationships with other people. Relationships connect us to each other in every aspect of our lives.

One of the greatest regrets many individuals express at the end of their lives is the lack of time they spent with their spouse, children, and special people. It’s time given to our loved ones and friends that fulfills us and brings meaning to our lives.

There are other benefits as well. Wholesome, long-term relationships bring happiness and health to our lives. Studies show that people with enriching relationships really do have more happiness and they experience less stress.

Long-term relationships require deposits

Enduring relationships are those that may last 5, 10, 15, or more years. Clearly, not every relationship falls into this category, but if you want to build a long-term relationship—one that feeds and sustains you in the different areas of your life—you will need to be deliberate about the time and attention you give.

For any relationship to last over a long period of time, it must be the kind where you offer value and meet the needs of the other person. I sometimes refer to this as making deposits into the relationship.

I like the way Anthony Robbins explains this concept.

“Some of the biggest challenges in relationships come from the fact that most people enter a relationship in order to get something. They’re trying to find someone who’s going to make them feel good. In reality, the only way a relationship will last is if you see your relationship as a place that you go to give, and not a place that you go to take.”

You can make deposits to any relationship by starting to do the little things that show your interest and that you truly care. Here are just a few of the 101 things you can do:

• Send an email just to say hi without asking for anything.
• Call to see how a son or daughter performed in a recent activity.
• Send a card or email on a holiday or birthday to tell them you are thinking about them.
• Express appreciation through a thank-you note or phone call for something done for you.
• Help them in times of need.
• Encourage them when starting new things.
• Compliment them on the things they do well.
• Be a support during times of struggle and grief.

I try my best to make regular deposits into all my relationships. From listening to offering a helping hand when needed, I am intentional about putting more into the relationships I value than I ever plan to take out. Not only does this give me satisfaction from knowing that this is the right thing to do, it feels good and draws me closer them.

How to nurture your relationships

The best way to nurture your relationships is to contribute to each of them according to their needs and expectations. Take a few moments to ask yourself these questions:

• What are the specific needs and expectations of my employer, customer, or client?
• What are the needs and desires of my spouse or significant other?
• What do my friends need in their relationships with me?

To help you put this lesson into perspective, make a note of the five people closest to you. These should be people with whom you have or desire to have a lasting relationship. Include on your list at least one family member, one friend, and at least one person you work for or with whom you do business.

Next, ask yourself, What does ________ (someone’s name) need from a relationship with me and what can I do to provide it?

Remember that what you decide to deposit into each relationship should depend on that person’s specific needs.

When you start asking what you can do to improve your relationships with others—rather than asking what they can do for you—your relationships will bring you joy and satisfaction and brighten the lives of those you care about.

It hit me this morning when I went to my inbox on just how many experts there are in network marketing. I must have ten experts each morning whose good friend is doing me a favor and letting me preview the latest tool, system, gimmick, you name it. You know the e mails. These people have a lot of close friends… you’re most likely getting some of these e mails yourself.

Or the person who is doing you a favor by reviewing your company with company XXX is a scam, just so you will listen to their video on what a great marketer they are. Really…. are you not starting your relationship  on a LIE…. why would I want to work with you knowing you lie or use gimmicks to get my attention. What else are you willing to do?

Ok, the rant is over….. Here’s my take.  Block out all the noise. The first and foremost important item in your search for a home based business has to be the product, the importance of this can not be over stated. Then the companies management, the financial backing, the approved marketing systems they will allow you to use. Dont take this lightly. Really spend time on this. If you have a great product, management, and comp plan you will go a long ways. A great marketing system with a bad product or company will be a short term gain at best. Typically ending in embarrassment and losing lots of money.

There are many great trainers and leaders out there so this is by far not the only two trainers. For me, after I found the right company it was about removing all the noise and time wasting emails and systems so I could get to work.

Do you need training? If The greatest athletes and performers in their sports need coaching and training it only makes sense you and I surly do. I have two, Mike Dillard and Dani Johnson. You dont need any more then two and really could use just one and focus and implement. Its easy to be in the learning stage and get stuck right there. In the comfort of learning. STOP….  get to work. Set aside your driving time and a specific time of the day or evening to learn and be coached. The rest of the time you must be talking to people. If your not sharing / and or lifting up your team and coaching them you are NOT working the business.

In conclusion. Your here to succeed in the company your have chosen. You are hopefully committed to the company, not five different companies but one! One you believe in and love the products.

Pick one, two at the most trainers with stellar reputations that have had their own success in the industry, not just success in coaching others. And go grab your dreams..

My introduction to LYF started over coffee. A Real Estate Broker and myself, sitting down to discuss current events and what each other were currently working on. As often has happened with those who know I have had a love hate relationship with this industry of network marketing. The subject turned to Network Marketing and about a gentleman my friend was driving up to visit in Seattle. This 39 yr old billionaire was starting a new company. Don’t have time… was my first answer. Of course when we say we don’t have time its not really true. We all have time for success and earning a living that will allow our families a better life and lifestyle where we can give back to the community. I don’t have time really means something much more.

Well, to make the story shorter, I listened to my friend discuss the people involved in the company, the executive management team, the master distributor who was hand selected by the founder to be the face of the distributors for the company. I found the time, and drove up to have lunch with the master distributor. I knew during that lunch I was interested in doing business with Jimmy Kossert, the master distributor.  Humble, sincere, and a big heart. This not only told me about Jimmy, it said an awful lot about the founder who hand selected Jimmy.

I thought to myself, if this is the kind of people and integrity the company wants to attract. I want to learn more.  I wanted to hear more…. I spent a lot of time looking into the company and its people, products and vision. What keeps bringing me back to Network Marketing? The people, the ability to help change lives, the need to help my family and be able to give more back to my community. It’s all there in this industry and I have been part of the huge successes and part of some of the biggest company collapses. I have lived through what happens when you have a great marketing system to put the business model to work, but a management team without the abilities or morals to do the right thing.

This industry is starting to attract more and more people from traditional business. Our economy is dictating that talented business people have to look for alternative solutions. When you compare buying a franchise or starting your own sales direct marketing company. A mini franchise if you will, network marketing is very very attractive.

Lets look at the advantages of joining forces and building your own business within a network marketing company. Low capital investment. Somewhere between $300 and $1,000 dollars typically vs on average a franchise is $350,000.

No Inventory – No payroll or FICA- No Commute, work from anywhere there is computer and phone service. – No limitations on your income. – Customer service, shipping and receiving all handled by the company – No royalties or franchise fees. – Personal development and training for you and your group. – Research and development all provided for you. The list could go on…

These are interesting times and as more and more people look at this industry, try to read through all the clutter and noise that is on the Internet. You will find there is not just one company you will succeed in. There are great companies out there with fantastic products.  In saying that, there are more companies then not that don’t have all the aspects you need for long-term financial success. Products people buy for their own merits, not because there is a commission or auto ship requirement. If you do not have this stop!!! Nothing else matters. If you do have a product you would personally buy for its quality and usefulness and share with your closest friends and family and feel proud of what your are introducing, then keep examining.  Is the product consumable? HAS to be. The fact is for this business model to work long term you need a great product people will want to use every month, month after month.  If yes, keep looking, this is a little harder to examine because of the smoke and mirrors many play. The company’s finances. How solid are the owners, can they withstand the bumps and bruises of the economy, the growth, the expansion, the research to verify and back their products, the research and development of new products. Many many companies have failed due to finances and lack of management ability. Sadly, there are companies that know there run will be short, but the money they make will be significant and then they repeat the process. If you’re assured the finances are in place. Take a very hard look at the executive team. Look into their background, where they came from, why they left to come to the company your looking at. Your leadership and the vision of the company are paramount with the product. You will not have long-term success with out both.  Third is how do you align with the companies philosophy, its core values, what the company stands for. You can talk with leaders; get to as many events as possible. Every company has its own feel, its own personality. Make sure your inner instincts tell you you’re in the right place. Don’t let all the hype and circumstances of the event overshadow what your gut is telling you. Don’t want it too bad. Talk to the people; watch to see if there actions match their words. As I am sure you know, unfortunately many times they don’t.

Don’t be in a hurry, think long term. Know your company, its finances, and its products.  We will talk more about what it takes personally in latter blogs.
